Regards croisés : sur les traces de François Arago is a first collective exhibition, with Jade Leisner and Corentin Schimel. 

François Arago, a French politician and physicist, was born in Estagel in the Pyrénées-Orientales on February 26th, 1786. In 1839, he introduced to the Academy of Sciences the process of fixing an image invented by Nicéphore Niépce and Louis Daguerre. He then convinced the French Government to buy the patent of the invention and to make it public. This led to the expansion of photography and its rapid development worldwide.

Symbolically set out “in the footsteps” of François Arago, Jade Leisner, Corentin Schimel and I wanted to cross our sights on Estagel and its region, offering three different but complementary approaches to the places that saw the growth of one of the major personalities of the 19th century.

By this approach referring to the invention of photography, we worked exclusively with film.

François Arago, homme politique et physicien français, est né à Estagel dans les Pyrénées-Orientales le 26 février 1786. En 1839, il introduit à l’Académie des sciences le procédé de fixation d’une image inventé par Nicéphore Niépce et Louis Daguerre. Il convainc alors le gouvernement français d’acheter le brevet de l’invention et de le rendre public. Cela a conduit à l’expansion de la photographie et à son développement rapide dans le monde entier. 

S’inscrivant symboliquement « dans les pas » de François Arago, Jade Leisner, Corentin Schimel et moi avons souhaité croiser nos regards sur Estagel et sa région, proposant trois approches différentes mais complémentaires des lieux qui ont vu grandir l’une des personnalités majeures du 19ème siècle. 

Pour cette approche faisant référence à l’invention de la photographie, nous avons travailler exclusivement à l’argentique.
